Tripura's first Govt Ayurvedic Medical College to come up in Udaipur, Centre clears proposal

Tripura has received a major boost in the field of medical education and traditional healthcare, with the approval for the establishment of the Tripura's first Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur. 

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on social media that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH has accepted the state's proposal to establish the institution with an intake capacity of 60 students from the academic session 2026–27. 

Describing the approval as a landmark achievement for the state, the Chief Minister said the new medical college and hospital would significantly strengthen Ayurvedic education in Tripura and contribute to the promotion of India's traditional systems of medicine. 

Dr. Saha expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support and leadership in expanding healthcare infrastructure and medical education across the country. 

He said the institution would create new opportunities for aspiring medical students in the state while enhancing access to quality healthcare services through Ayurveda.  

The college is also expected to play a vital role in developing skilled professionals in traditional medicine and advancing research and clinical practices in the sector. 

The establishment of the government-run Ayurvedic medical college marks a significant milestone in Tripura's healthcare and education landscape, further expanding higher education opportunities and strengthening the state's healthcare delivery system, according to official sources.
