Close call for Tripura Assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Roy in Road mishap at Baramura Hills

Tripura Legislative Assembly’s Chief Whip Kalyani Saha Roy narrowly escaped a major accident on Monday morning while traveling from Agartala to Teliamura.

According to reports, as her convoy was passing through the Baramura Hills, a speeding Bolero pickup van coming from the opposite direction attempted to ram into the convoy. Thanks to the quick reflexes of the convoy driver, a direct collision was avoided. However, the van later crashed into the vehicle carrying the Chief Whip.

The impact left the driver of her car injured, while Kalyani Saha Roy sustained minor injuries. Two of her personal security guards, who were also in the vehicle, remained unharmed. The MLA’s car suffered partial damage in the collision.

Police from Champaknagar Outpost arrived at the scene promptly and seized the Bolero pickup van, taking it to the station for further investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about reckless driving on the Baramura stretch, a route often considered risky due to sharp turns and heavy traffic. Local residents and political observers noted that the accident could have been far more serious without the alertness of the driver.

The episode has left the area tense, but authorities assured that strict action will be taken against the driver of the pickup van.
