Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday asserted that the Left Front would contest the ensuing Village Committee (VC) elections slated to be held in the month of September after the intervention of the Supreme Court.Â
Reacting to Tripura government’s submission before the Supreme Court that the elections would be conducted in September 2026, Chaudhury said, “It is said that better late than never. The democratic rights of the people living in the TTAADC areas had been snatched by intentionally delaying the polls. Moreover, this judgement will also effectively put a full stop on the unabated corruption and unconstitutional practices underway in the VCs.”Â
Chaudhury also partially credited Tipra Motha for moving the Supreme Court but criticised it on the same breadth for being a part of the ruling coalition government led by the BJP that was accused of stalling the election process.Â
“Tipra Motha should be given the credit when it is due but at the same time we should not forget the fact that it is a part of the same coalition government which ignored conducting the polls for the last ten years. This shows that all the development we have been witnessing is part of a bigger plan. Tipra Motha can anyway exit from the coalition but it remained there to enjoy the perks of being in power,” he noted.Â
Making an announcement of contesting the VC polls with its optimum strength, the CPIM leader said, “BJP and Tipra Motha are trying to run the state according to their terms. We have already decided to contest the elections in 100 percent seats and with our full strength. We shall fight to keep both the corrupt forces away from the VCs. Apart from politics, a principal objective of the elections is to protect the villages.”Â
