In a major development for rail connectivity in Tripura, a 12-coach electric MEMU train arrived at Sabroom railway station on a trial run on Sunday afternoon.
The train reached the station at around 4 pm, drawing considerable attention from passengers and local residents. A large number of people gathered at the station to witness the arrival of the new electric train.
According to railway sources, the MEMU service is likely to be introduced on the Sabroom–Karimganj route within the next few days. As part of the preparatory process, the train was brought to Sabroom to assess various technical and operational aspects before regular services commence.
The train driver stated that the 12-coach MEMU had arrived as part of a trial run and that the initial observations were satisfactory. Following the completion of the tests, a detailed report will be submitted to the concerned railway authorities.
The final decision on the regular operation of the MEMU service between Sabroom and Karimganj will be taken based on the findings of the trial and the subsequent evaluation by railway officials.
Local residents expressed hope over the proposed service, saying that the introduction of the MEMU train would improve travel convenience and strengthen rail connectivity for passengers up to South Tripura.
