Former CM Biplab Deb meets Union Minister Nitin Gadkari; Pushes for urgent Road Infrastructure reforms in Tripura

Former Tripura Chief Minister and sitting Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has pressed the Union government for immediate intervention to address the state’s deteriorating road network, during a high‑level meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi.

Deb highlighted the poor condition of several national highways across Tripura, warning that the situation has disrupted connectivity and slowed economic activity. 

He also pointed to the slow pace of ongoing projects under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), urging the Union Minister to ensure faster execution.

In addition, Deb discussed the proposed ropeway projects, stressing their importance for tourism and alternative transport in hilly terrain.

Following the meeting, Gadkari issued instructions to the NHIDCL Managing Director to take immediate steps for repairing damaged stretches and to strengthen routine maintenance. 

He also emphasized the need to accelerate completion of ongoing projects, assuring Deb that the ministry would closely monitor progress.

Deb expressed gratitude for Gadkari’s “sincere cooperation, constructive attitude, and timely intervention,” noting that the Union Minister’s proactive stance reflects a strong commitment to Tripura’s overall development. “This is a positive step that will directly benefit the people of Tripura and improve the state’s infrastructure framework,” Deb said.

Observers believe the intervention could provide much‑needed relief to commuters and businesses who have long complained about the fragile state of Tripura’s highways. The ropeway projects, if expedited, are expected to add a new dimension to the state’s transport and tourism landscape.

With Gadkari’s directives now in place, attention will turn to whether NHIDCL and state authorities can deliver on promises of faster project execution and improved maintenance, a development that could reshape Tripura’s connectivity in the months ahead.
