MLA Birajit Sinha demands judicial probe into DGP's mysterious death

The controversy surrounding the sudden and unexplained death of Tripura’s Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar has taken a new turn, with Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha demanding a judicial investigation into the incident.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Sinha said that the absence of clear information has fuelled widespread speculation among the public. “When a senior police officer dies under such circumstances, people deserve to know the truth. Only a judicial probe led by a High Court judge can ensure transparency and impartiality,” he asserted.

Sinha noted that if the case is indeed one of suicide, the circumstances and reasons behind such a drastic step must be brought to light. He argued that without a thorough and independent inquiry, doubts will persist and public trust will remain shaken.

The MLA stressed that the demand for clarity is not limited to opposition parties. “Citizens across Tripura and even beyond the state are eager to know the real cause of this mysterious death. A judicial probe is the only way to provide credible answers,” he said.

Sinha urged Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to take a clear stand and initiate a judicial inquiry without delay. “The government must act decisively to dispel the cloud of suspicion and restore confidence among the people,” he added.

Notably, Dhankar’s death has already triggered widespread shock and calls for impartial investigation from multiple quarters. With Sinha’s demand adding weight to the chorus, pressure is mounting on the state government to ensure that the probe is conducted in a manner that is both transparent and beyond reproach.
