Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee joins Parliament Protest against Congress demonstration

Tripura’s Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee joined fellow parliamentarians in a sharp protest inside the Parliament premises on Thursday, condemning what he described as a “disgraceful and deliberate provocation” staged by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his party workers outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi.

In a social media post, Bhattacharjee said the Congress action amounted to an insult to India’s democratic values and constitutional dignity. “Political differences are natural, but such indecent and provocative behaviour in front of the Prime Minister’s residence is unacceptable,” he wrote, adding that the protest was designed to undermine democratic norms.

Citing statements from Nitin Nabin, National President of Bharatiya Janata Party’s allied organisation and fellow MP, Bhattacharjee reiterated that the NDA government is fully prepared to answer every question in Parliament—from issues concerning students and youth to the ongoing debate around NEET examinations. 

He accused Rahul Gandhi and the opposition of deliberately avoiding parliamentary debate, fearing that their “double standards” would be exposed.

Bhattacharjee declared that the ruling alliance is ready for face‑to‑face discussions on every issue, including education, youth concerns, and national policy. “If the opposition has courage, let them come to Parliament and engage in open debate. Running away from discussion only reveals their weakness,” he said.

The protest in Parliament reflects the escalating confrontation between the ruling NDA and the opposition Congress over both conduct and accountability. 

While the Congress has sought to intensify its street‑level agitation, the NDA has positioned itself as willing to debate every issue within the constitutional framework of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the incident has added fresh tension to the ongoing monsoon session, with both sides trading accusations of undermining democratic values.
