Nasha Mukt Saptah observation underway, district-level rally on June 24

West Tripura district administration is observing Nasha Mukt Saptah from June 17 to June 26 as part of the nationwide campaign ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar said on Friday.
Addressing a press conference here, Dr Kumar said the week-long campaign is being conducted under the theme "Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchan" with the involvement of multiple government departments, educational institutions, local bodies and community organisations.
He said a district-level coordination mechanism has been put in place to ensure effective implementation of the campaign across the district.
The inaugural programme was held on June 17 at Umakanta Academy School in Agartala with participation from students, teachers and other stakeholders.
According to the district administration, awareness programmes are being organised throughout the district in schools, colleges, Gram Panchayats, Village Committees, urban wards and other public places to educate people about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
Police authorities are conducting awareness campaigns through all police stations in the district, targeting youths and the general public. The Health Department is also organising counselling sessions and awareness activities focusing on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse.
Officials said block-level rallies, village-level awareness programmes and ward-level campaigns are being held to ensure outreach at the grassroots level.
“The Sports and Youth Affairs Department is engaging young people through awareness programmes, pledge-taking activities and sporting events promoting a drug-free lifestyle. The Information and Cultural Affairs Department is conducting street plays, nukkad nataks and media campaigns through print, electronic and social media platforms,” he said.
Special awareness programmes involving Panchayati Raj Institution representatives and community leaders are also being organised to strengthen public participation in the campaign.
As part of the observance, slogan-writing, debate and poster competitions are being conducted in schools and colleges to encourage youth engagement on the issue.
Dr Kumar said a district-level rally under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan will be held on June 24 from Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan to Umakanta Academy, Agartala, with the participation of around 1,550 stakeholders.
He appealed to youths, parents, educational institutions and community leaders to actively participate in the campaign and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
The programmes will conclude on June 26 with a pledge-taking ceremony with the commitment to eradicate substance abuse and promote a drug-free West Tripura, officials said.
