With the monsoon season approaching, the Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Administration organized a mock flood preparedness exercise at the Haflong Tea Estate area to test readiness and coordination among government departments and rescue agencies.
Â
The exercise was aimed at evaluating the ability to respond to potential flood situations, including rescue operations, relief distribution, evacuation of affected residents to safer locations, and maintaining essential services during emergencies.
Â
Representatives from the sub-divisional administration, disaster management department, police, fire service, health department, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) actively participated in the drill.
Â
As part of the demonstration, teams carried out rescue of stranded people from waterlogged areas, relocation by boats to safe shelters, first-aid treatment for the injured, and management of temporary relief camps. Special emphasis was placed on quick response and inter-departmental coordination during disaster scenarios.
Â
Officials stated that such exercises are conducted regularly to ensure effective, timely, and coordinated action during natural disasters. They added that the programme also seeks to raise public awareness and strengthen preparedness across departments.
