Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday hailed the Geographical Indication (GI) recognition granted to the traditional Tripura Sarinda, describing it as a proud moment for the state's rich cultural heritage.Â
The Chief Minister said that the Tripura Sarinda, a unique indigenous stringed musical instrument, has been awarded the prestigious GI tag under the name “Tripura Sarinda (Musical Instrument).” Â
He noted that the recognition would play a significant role in preserving and promoting the state's invaluable folk traditions while further strengthening Tripura’s cultural identity.Â
According to the Chief Minister, the latest recognition makes Tripura the proud owner of four GI-tagged products. He extended his congratulations and best wishes to all artisans, craftsmen, and musicians whose dedication, skill, and creativity contributed to this achievement.Â
Saha also highlighted that Tripura's Queen Pineapple, Risha/Pachra (Rignai), and Matabari Pera had earlier received GI recognition, serving as prominent symbols of Tripura’s rich heritage, culture, and unique identity.Â
The Chief Minister termed the GI recognition of the Tripura Sarinda as another milestone in showcasing the state's traditional art forms and indigenous craftsmanship on a wider platform.
