Tripura sees 80% drop in patient referrals, CM highlights health Sector gains on World Blood Donor Day

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday announced that patient referrals outside Tripura have reduced by nearly 80 percent, attributing the decline to significant improvements in the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a programme at Pragna Bhawan, Agartala, organized by the Tripura State Blood Transfusion Council under the Department of Health and Family Welfare to mark World Blood Donor Day.

The Chief Minister noted that Tripura now has around 550 MBBS seats and nearly 200 postgraduate medical seats, offering greater opportunities for local students to pursue medical education.

He added that super-specialty services are being steadily expanded, ensuring advanced treatment options within the state.

Emphasizing decentralization, he said the government is prioritizing quality healthcare not only in Agartala but also in district and sub-divisional hospitals, so that citizens can access better services closer to home.

Highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation, Dr. Saha remarked, “There can be no greater donation than blood. As awareness grows, more people will come forward for this noble cause, saving countless lives.”

The event also saw participation from senior officials including Dr. Biswajit Debbarma, Member-Secretary of the Tripura Blood Transfusion Council, Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Director of Health Services, and B.K. Roy, Chairman of the Tripura Red Cross Society. Regular and top blood donors were felicitated for their contributions.

In a notable gesture, troops of the Assam Rifles Agartala Battalion joined the programme with enthusiasm, voluntarily donating blood. Their participation was widely appreciated by the civil administration and attendees, symbolizing the armed force’s commitment to humanitarian service.

Officials observed that the act reaffirmed the belief that true strength lies not only in arms but in compassion and selfless contribution to society.

Later, the Chief Minister visited the blood donation camp at Pragna Bhawan, interacting with donors and encouraging them to continue their life-saving efforts.
