Agartala Mayor calls for healthy families through Yoga

The message of yoga as a path to disease-free and healthy living resonated across the city on Sunday as Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumdar joined citizens in celebrating International Yoga Day.

Speaking at a yoga programme organized at Bijoykumar Girls’ School auditorium under the initiative of Ramnagar Mandal and Ramnagar Assembly constituency, Mayor Majumdar highlighted yoga’s timeless importance. “Yoga is not just physical exercise; it is a complete philosophy of life. A healthy individual, a healthy family, and a healthy society — this should be the pledge of International Yoga Day,” he said.

Majumdar recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi first proposed International Yoga Day at the United Nations in 2014, and since 2015, June 21 has been observed globally, bringing India’s ancient tradition of yoga and pranayama to the world stage.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, yoga enthusiasts, and dignitaries including Mandal president Amitabh Bhattacharjee, corporators Snigdha Das Deb, Bhaswati Debbarma, Nitu Dey, and Tushar Kanti Bhattacharjee, along with social leaders and community members.

Under the guidance of yoga trainers, participants performed various asanas, pranayama, and meditation exercises, reinforcing the message of holistic well-being. Speakers emphasized that yoga is essential for building a health-conscious society and urged the younger generation to adopt it as part of their daily lifestyle.
