BJP chief pitches for a balance of youngsters and senior in organisation

Newly-appointed Tripura BJP president Abhishek Debroy on Thursday called for strengthening the party by combining the energy of young workers with the experience of senior leaders and urged party functionaries to work together ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.

Addressing a district-level workers' conference at Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district, Debroy said the party should actively involve senior members and "18-plus" first-time voters in organisational activities. The conference was organised exclusively for the workers of Sepahijala (North) organisation district of the BJP.

"We have to work together and prepare for the 2028 elections by taking along both young and senior workers," he said.

The conference was part of Debroy's first organisational tour of the district after assuming charge as the state BJP president.

Earlier in the day, BJP Yuva Morcha workers escorted Debroy in a motorcycle rally from Gokulnagar to the Kasbeswari temple, where he offered prayers. He later paid floral tributes to the statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya at Bishalgarh along with MLA Sushanta Deb.

The district-level conference at Bishalgarh New Town Hall was attended by office-bearers of the district and mandal committees, various frontal organisations, booth and Shakti Kendra committees, elected representatives of panchayats and municipal bodies, and other party functionaries.

Speaking at the meeting, Debroy said the BJP functioned on the basis of ideology and organisational discipline, while alleging that opposition parties had compromised their principles for political gains.

He also urged party workers and public representatives to maintain close contact with people and asked them to ensure respect for women within the organisation, warning that any instance of misconduct would invite disciplinary action.

Debroy further suggested forming committees of senior citizens at every booth to utilise their experience in organisational work.

He also praised an exhibition organised at the panchayat level highlighting development works carried out over the past 25 years and the last eight years, and said similar initiatives could be replicated elsewhere in the state.

BJP state vice-president Tapas Bhattacharjee, who also addressed the conference, said the party was working towards the goal of a developed India by 2047 and called upon workers to remain vigilant against forces seeking to create instability in the country.

Among those present at the programme were MLAs Sushanta Deb and Antara Sarkar Deb, BJP state secretary Nabadal Banik, district president Biplab Chakraborty, Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Datta, Bishalgarh Municipal Council chairman Anjan Purkayastha and former MLA Birendra Kishore Debbarma.

Following the conference, Debroy held separate organisational meetings with district, mandal and morcha committees at the district BJP office.
