Tripura to set up robotics, VR labs in Vidyajyoti schools under SSA

The Tripura government has launched an initiative to introduce robotics, drone technology and virtual reality (VR)-based learning in Vidyajyoti schools as part of efforts to strengthen technology-enabled education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Under the Samagra Shiksha programme of the School Education Department, Robotics and Virtual Reality laboratories are being established in all Vidyajyoti schools across the state, according to the department.

The initiative aims to promote experiential learning by exposing students to emerging technologies and enhancing problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity and innovation.

As part of the programme, schools are being equipped with electronic devices and other technological infrastructure required to operate the laboratories.

A five-day training programme for teachers on the operation and management of Robotics and VR laboratories began at Shishu Bihar School on July 20. The programme is designed to provide hands-on training to teachers before the laboratories become operational in schools.

During the training, teachers are learning to develop traffic signal control systems, work with sensor-based technologies, build battery-operated models, understand the basics of robotics and operate drones.

The training also includes operating drones through mobile applications to enable teachers to familiarise students with practical applications of the technology.

The initiative will also introduce students to virtual reality-based learning through VR headsets, allowing them to explore simulated environments related to science, space, history and human anatomy as part of classroom instruction.

According to the department, regular monitoring visits will continue after completion of the training programme to oversee the functioning of the laboratories and ensure effective utilisation of the equipment.

The department expects the initiative to increase students' interest in classroom learning, promote science and technology education, encourage innovation and help reduce school dropout rates by making learning more interactive.

The programme is also intended to equip students with skills relevant to emerging technologies and prepare them for future educational and professional opportunities.
