
West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar on Friday visited Shantiniketan Medical College’s girls hostel and initiated a detailed inquiry into the unnatural death of 22-year-old Manisha Das.
The magisterial probe was ordered following directives from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha after the deceased’s family suspected it as ‘murder’.
The young girl had worked as an assistant in the examination cell. Her body was found hanging inside a room of the girls hostel under mysterious circumstances two days ago.
Amtali police after preliminary investigation suspected it as a case of suicide and arrested a youth in this connection.Â
On Friday, the District Magistrate personally reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident and examined all relevant aspects on the first day of the investigation.
During the visit, Dr. Vishal Kumar interacted with concerned officials and other stakeholders to gather preliminary information related to the case and assess the situation surrounding the unfortunate incident.
As part of the inquiry process, the District Magistrate also met the bereaved family members of the deceased and expressed his heartfelt condolences.Â
He assured the family that the investigation would be carried out in a fair, transparent, and impartial manner.
Officials stated that the investigation is currently at a preliminary stage and will continue thoroughly until all facts and circumstances related to the case are fully established.
The district administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring a comprehensive, objective, and lawful inquiry into the matter.
