Tripura CM inspects fire-ravaged Office Lane, Promises swift relief for victims

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha personally visited the Office Lane area in Agartala on Wednesday morning, where a devastating fire on Monday night reduced at least 7 shops including a local club to ashes. The visit underscored the government’s commitment to stand by those affected and ensure timely assistance.

Walking through the charred remains, Dr. Saha interacted with shopkeepers and residents, listening to their accounts of loss. He expressed deep sympathy, remarking that only those who depend entirely on a single shop for their livelihood can truly grasp the magnitude of the damage. “What has happened is extremely unfortunate. Restoration may take at least a month given the extent of destruction,” he said.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by West Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police (West) Namit Pathak, senior police officials, and officers from the Sadar Sub-Divisional Administration. Together, they reviewed the immediate response measures and assessed the relief operations already underway.

Dr. Saha directed officials to ensure prompt relief distribution and coordinated support for affected families and businesses. He emphasized the importance of minimizing hardship through quick rehabilitation and restoring normalcy in the area.

Meanwhile, the West Tripura District Administration has initiated steps for relief and rehabilitation, closely monitoring the situation to facilitate early recovery. Authorities reiterated their commitment to providing timely assistance and safeguarding public welfare.

The incident has reignited concerns about fire safety preparedness in Agartala’s commercial hubs, where congested lanes and crowded establishments often pose challenges for emergency response.

This visit by the Chief Minister signals a proactive approach, combining immediate relief with long-term planning to rebuild confidence among traders and residents impacted by the blaze.
