Transfer Order ignored: Dharmanagar Police Officers still in place despite official directive

A storm of controversy has erupted in North Tripura after revelations that three police officers, officially transferred weeks ago, continue to serve at Dharmanagar Police Station. The situation has raised sharp questions about transparency, discipline and the enforcement of administrative orders.

On May 23, the office of the North District Superintendent of Police issued transfer orders for SI Nikunj Debnath, SI Manoj Kumar Pal, and ASI Niranjan Malakar. Yet, despite the directive, all three officers remain in their posts. The issue has become particularly sensitive in the case of SI Manoj Kumar Pal, who has allegedly taken charge of new investigations even after his transfer order — a move that locals say violates standard procedure.

Community members and civic groups have voiced concern, arguing that the failure to implement transfer orders undermines public trust in law enforcement. Some residents have gone further, recalling past allegations of police involvement in illegal activities such as gambling and liquor trade in the Dharmanagar area, though these claims remain unverified.

Police sources suggest that the officers were not immediately relieved due to pending critical assignments, but no official clarification has yet been issued by the district police administration. The silence has only fueled speculation and debate.

The controversy has now become a major talking point across Dharmanagar, with demands for a clear explanation and corrective action. Observers note that the incident highlights the urgent need for stronger accountability mechanisms to ensure that administrative orders are implemented without delay or exception.
