NLFT submits memorandum to Governor, Seeks implementation of Tripartite Peace Accord

The surrendered faction of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Governor, demanding urgent steps for the implementation of the Tripartite Peace Accord signed on September 4, 2024.

NLFT president Prasenjit Debbarma said nearly two years have passed since the agreement was signed, yet most surrendered members have not received the promised benefits. “Almost 90 percent of our members are still deprived of government rehabilitation and facilities. They are living in uncertainty,” he stated.

He further alleged that the special economic development package promised under the accord has not been initiated. In addition, committees mandated under Clause 26 of the agreement — including the EIMC, SLEC, and JWGC — have not included representatives from NLFT (ORI) and ATTF returnees, which he described as a violation of the accord’s provisions.

The memorandum submitted to the Governor highlighted several demands: the inclusion of NLFT and ATTF representatives in the committees formed under the accord; recognition of NLFT (ORI) returnee leaders as Governor‑nominated MDCs in the TTAADC; time‑bound implementation of all promises made in the peace accord; allocation of land to landless Tiprasa families for agriculture and livelihood; recruitment of eligible Tiprasa youth in state and central government departments as well as paramilitary forces such as Assam Rifles, BSF, and CRPF; and immediate government recognition and rehabilitation of all surrendered members of NLFT (ORI), NLFT (PD), and ATTF.

The organisation noted that despite raising these issues with relevant authorities on multiple occasions, no positive response has been received so far. Hence, they have sought the Governor’s intervention to ensure swift action.

The NLFT’s appeal has reignited debate over the pace of peace accord implementation in Tripura. While the signing of the accord was hailed as a landmark step towards stability, the delay in rehabilitation and development measures has left surrendered members frustrated and communities questioning the government’s commitment.
